There are three types of flat feet: flexible flatfoot, painful rigid flatfoot, and spasmodic flatfoot.

  • Flexible flatfoot:
    • A condition that is defined when an individual’s foot has a minor arch.
  • Painful rigid flatfoot:
    • A condition that is abnormal and defined by excessive pain, stiffness, and an individual’s inability to flex their feet. Generally, a patient suffering from this will have a problem with their bones, a disease, or a past injury.
  • Spasmodic flatfoot:
    • A condition that is characterized by abnormal spasmodic contractions of the peroneal muscle. This condition forces an individual’s foot outward and is extremely painful.

These conditions may sound alarming, but a properly outfitted pair of orthotics for flat feet and foot pain can help correct and reduce overall pain.
